The big online companies like Google, Facebook and Amazon are doing everything they can to collect as much data as possible. Data is very powerful and I think there is a lot of potential use of information that is available on the internet.

Starting point

The internet was initially created in the 1960s to share information between devices. In the 1990s Tim Berners-Lee invented the World Wide Web (WWW). The problem is that in the last years, capitalism took over big parts of the WWW. A lot of sites became unreadable beceause of the ads and cookie banners. The internet is broken.

Available information

Browsing the web, I noticed how many websites have an API or web services. For example: I’m considering making a dashboard with all the useful information you need to sail in Belgium and The Netherlands.

When I did some (small) research on the tools other people made, I saw that the number of applications is limited. Most of the time there was a just web page linking to other pages for weather and other information. Is this an opportunity? Maybe.

Thinking further, you realize that, with the right knowledge, you can literally make everything.
